Somma has scored six goals in 12 games for Leeds United this season
South Africa have called up Leeds United striker Davide Somma for this month's friendly against the United States on 17 November.
Somma was born in Johannesburg but moved to America as a 12-year-old before finding his way to England.
The 25-year-old is the only newcomer to coach Pitso Mosimane's 23-man squad for the Nelson Mandela Challenge match in Cape Town.
"It's important to give him a chance to see what he is made of," said Mosimane.
"At the same time, I don't want to put him under pressure and put it to him that he is the answer to our scoring problems.
"I just want to give him a chance to play for South Africa and increase our pool of strikers.
"He has been scoring in almost every match so we have to bring him in and hope it works out for him."
Somma has scored six goals in 12 Championship games for Leeds United this season.
Defender Bongani Khumalo has been left out because of injury while a highly experienced trio - regular captain Aaron Mokoena, midfielder MacBeth Sibaya and striker Katlego Mphela - also miss out.
In their place come defenders Siyanda Xulu, Keegan Ritchie and Bevan Fransman, while midfielder Matthew Pattison also returns.
Mosimane explained: "This is a friendly so I will be trying to have a look at other players - for that to happen, I had to leave out some regulars."
Bafana Bafana will be playing in Cape Town for the first time since an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Zambia in 2007.
And South African FA officials hope that the fans will come out in force for the game at the Green Point stadium, just as they did during the World Cup finals in June and July.
"The ball is now firmly in the hands of the Capetonians to make this event the success it deserves to be - and one such prerequisite is to fill this magnificent World Cup venue to capacity," said Safa vice-president Mandla Shoes Mazibuko.
The match, which will donate just under US$150,000 (£93,272) to the Nelson Mandela Childrens' Fund charity, will be the third meeting between the sides.
South Africa are seeking a maiden victory against Bob Bradley's men after being thumped 4-0 in 2000 before losing 1-0 in Johannesburg three years ago.
