Nigeria through as group winners

Nigeria coach John Uboh has taken the Golden Eaglets to the knock-out phase

Nigeria are through to the knock-out stages of the Under 17 World Cup after an excellent win over Argentina on Friday.

The Golden Eaglets came from behind to beat the South Americans 2-1 in Bauchi.

Nigeria finished top of group A with seven points, one ahead of Argentina and three ahead of Germany.

Esteban Orfano had put put Argentina into the lead in only the third minute of the game.

But Omoh Ojabu levelled things up just a short while later, and Sani Emmanuel scored from the penalty spot to give Nigeria the win.

Argentina had already secured their place in the last 16 before the game but despite a series of changes to the team they still presented a stiff test to the home side.

But Nigeria bounced back well and proved that they can score goals when they are needed.

Emmanuel had earlier missed a great chance just after coming on as a substitute in the 31st minute.

In the other game in group A Germany beat Honduras 3-1 in Abuja and must now wait to see if their four points from three games are enough to see them through as one of the best-placed teams in third spot.
