South Africa snatched a place in the last 16 of the Under-20 World Cup with a 2-0 win over Honduras.

Goals from Andile Jali and Sibusiso Khumalo gave them the win - although Jali was later sent off.

In the other game in the group Hungary beat UAE 2-0 meaning South Africa finish third on goal difference and Honduras go home.

South Africa went in to the game knowing that only a win would see them through to the next stage.

Amajita had let slip a two-goal lead in stoppage time at the end of their opening game against UAE and were then hammered 4-0 by Hungary, so they had a lot to prove.

They were the more positive side in the early stages, with most of the attacks coming through George Maluleka down the left.

As the half wore on his striking partner Kermit Erasmus came more into the game, and he was heavily involved in the opening goal.

His hard work on the edge of the box saw the ball fall to Andile Jali 20 yards out, and the shot powered home to give South Africa a deserved lead.

Half-time saw South Africa 1-0 in front and sparked a furious row amongst the Honduras players - two of whom squared up to each other and had to be pulled apart.

Thirty seconds after the restart South Africa extended their lead.

Erasmus passed to Maluleka, the ball cannoned back to Erasmus who this time found Sibusiso Khumalo, and his shot was driven in off the post to make it 2-0.

Jali should have got his second just after the hour, but his control let him down in the box.

Honduras created more in the second half - South Africa simply could not keep up the pace they had set themselves.

Their task of holding on was made tougher when Jali was sent off for a second bookable offence with 10 minutes to play.

But they put up with the sustained pressure thrown at them and deservedly go through to the knock-out stages.
