Hey is still waiting for details of his salary arrangements |
Liberia's hopes of acquiring a new national coach have hit a hitch. Germany's Antoine Hey was due to sign his contract in Monrovia Thursday but the ceremony was called off because of uncertainties over his remuneration.
Sources at the Liberia Football Association told BBC Sport that the sports ministry has yet to sort out the coach's salary package.
"It's embarrassing that the man is here and we're yet to nail down this matter," the highly-placed source said.
Deputy sports minister Marbue Richards told BBC Sport that there was no budgetary allocation in this fiscal year for the coach's remuneration.
He said: "We're working with the LFA but we did not place in the 2007-08 fiscal budget any allotment for a coach's salary.
"We are seeking ways of getting this matter addressed until the new budget is passed.
"It is government's responsibility so we cannot shun it."
Hey is reportedly asking to be paid between eight and 10 thousand dollars per month with a cash bonus if he qualifies the Lone Star for the 2010 Nations Cup and World Cup finals.
