The NFL's Oyuiki Obaseki says the NFA will appoint referees |
The chaos affecting the start of the Nigerian league season has finally been resolved.
The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the board of the Nigeria Football League (NFL) have now resolved the row over the appointment of referees for league matches.
The kick-off date for the 2007/08 season has suffered several postponements following disagreements between the NFA and the NFL.
Oyuiki Obaseki, chairman of the NFL, says he and his board have conceded that the NFA can appoint the referees for the league games, in accordance to Fifa statues.
"The NFL board has conceded to the rules and regulations which govern football around the world," says Obaseki.
"We have to allow peace and prosperity reigns in our nation because football is the opium of the people.
"Hence we have resolved that the NFA can appoint and fix referees for league games in the country."
The NFA board will meet on Sunday to set a new kick-off date for the league, which the NFL with then ratify before the 2007/08 season will eventually commence.
