Amos Adamu brokered the deal for the new kick off date |
The Nigeria league season will now kick off on the new date of 1 September following the resolution of a dispute between the country's football bodies. The Nigeria Football League (NFL) originally wanted the 18 August to be the first day of the new season.
But the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) rejected the date as they insisted the season should not start before its annual general meeting scheduled for 13 September.
The NFA's comments sparked a row between the heads of both organisations as they engaged in a bitter war of words.
But peace was brokered by Fifa and Confederation of African Football (Caf) executive member Dr Amos Adamu in clear-the-air talks.

Both sides have now settled on 1 September as the date for the kick-off of the new domestic campaign.
"It was an embarrassing and disturbing situation for our football but I'm happy it has been resolved," NFA chairman Sani Lulu told BBC Sport.
"The NFA annual general meeting will now be held on 25 August and, consequently, the new league season will commence a week later.
"I've always said it was a simple misunderstanding and we are glad it is over now," Lulu added.
There have been several clashes between both organisations since the NFL came into existence three years ago.
Issues over who should take charge of the appointments of match referees, player's registration and handling of club protests have led to disagreement in the past.
