The NFA's chairman Sani Lulu says the feud is over. |
The feud within the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) which threatened to derail the hiring of German coach Berti Vogts has finally been resolved. The bitter feud between members of the NFA board was laid to rest following an emergency meeting.
The NFA's chairman Sani Lulu created a rift within the association by lining up Vogts as the Super Eagles coach and Bolaji Ojo-Oba as the NFA's new secretary general.
Peter Singabele, one of the 14 members on the NFA board, spoke out to say the appointments "did not have everyone's blessing".
He also accused Lulu of "consistently violating" the Fifa-approved statutes of the NFA.
Berti Vogts should sign his contract in London 5 February. |
'Friction within the family' However, Lulu told BBC Sport on Monday: "The appointment of Berti Vogts and Bolaji Ojo-Oba has finally been ratified by the board."
"Our little disagreement has also been resolved, there is always friction amongst a family and ours has been sorted amicably.
"We've resolved that Berti Vogts will sign his contract on 5 February in London and also use the opportunity to meet the players he will be working with.
"According to our schedule, he will be in Nigeria in the first week of March to start his job.
Vogts, whose appointment has been greeted with mixed-feelings in Nigeria, is expected to take charge of the Super Eagles for their 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda in March.
Meanwhile, Lulu also told BBC Sport that Austin Eguavoen, who has been at the helm for the past two years, will equally get a new contract in London as well.
"Eguavoen's contract papers should have been sorted out some weeks back, but everything will be tied-up in London," Lulu added.
