The Nigeria Football Association will agree a new date next week |
The Nigerian league which was to begin this weekend following government intervention has suffered yet another postponement.
"The league will not start this weekend as there are still some grey areas," a top-ranking official said.
"This needs to be cleared up between the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) and the Nigeria Football League (NFL)."
The kick-off date for this new season has suffered several cancellations following disagreements between the NFA and the NFL.
The latest row is over who should appoint referees for league matches in Nigeria.
Officials disclosed that a "clear the air" meeting between both bodies has been fixed for Monday in Abuja.
The board of the NFA will then sit on Thursday to deliberate on a new start-up date for the league.
"The main issues have been resolved and both the NFA and the NFL have agreed to work together harmoniously," another top official said.
"We are most indebted to the Sports Minister, who showed such great interest in ensuring that the statutes governing both bodies are strictly adhered to."
