Result: Liberia 3-2 Rwanda (08/10/06)
Liberia clinched a 3-2 victory over Rwanda despite a rash of missed chances and a spirited late fightback by the visitors.
Francis Doe scored after 24 minutes to put the home side ahead and Oliver Makor made it 2-0 after 68 minutes, only for Rwanda's Olivier Karekezi to strike back two minutes later.
Dio William stretched the home lead to 3-1, scoring off a pass from midfielder Kelvin Swegbe in the 76th minute.
Rwanda were again quick on the counter-attack, Abedi Mulenda narrowing the deficit to 3-2 two minutes later, but they were unable to equalise before the final whistle.
"We need to do more the next time. We have to train. We should have scored over five goals on them, but our players missed goals," Liberia sports minister Jamesetta Howard-Wolokollie said.
Result: Cameroon 3-0 Equatorial Guinea (07/10/06)
Late call-up Mohamadou Idrissou scored twice as Cameroon flattened Equatorial Guinea in Yaounde.
Equatorial Guinea, content to sit back in defence, held their much vaunted opponents at bay well into the second half thanks to good goalkeeping from Danilo Emmanuel.
But the Indomitable Lions eventually carried the day with goals from Idrissou and one from Achille Webo.
"It wasn't easy but the boys did well and we're happy with three points," Cameroon assistant coach Jules Nyongha said.
Results: Rwanda 0-3 Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea 2-1 Liberia (03/09/06)
The Indomitable Lions began their campaign with a thumping 3-0 victory in Kigali but the four-time African kings could not break the deadlock until the 55th minute.
Guy Feutchine got the opener after coming on as a substitute for Rudolphe Douala.
With African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto'o unable to find the net, it was left to Geremi Njitap and Landry Nguemo to put their names on the scoresheet.
