 Rwanda finish third in Group Six |
Equatorial Guinea defeated continental giants Cameroon 1-0 in a qualifying match for the African Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Cameroon had already qualified for the final tournament in Ghana, but the upset kept the Indomitable Lions from sweeping Group Five.
Juvenal Edjogo Owono, who for Cartagena in Spain's second division, scored the only goal in the 39th minute.
The victory puts Equatorial Guinea in second place in the group.
In a stadium filled with more than 15,000 spectators, most wearing the bright red of Equatorial Guinea, the hosts kept their lead with strong defensive play.
Meanwhile, a couple of late goals wrapped up a 4-0 win for Rwanda over Liberia in the group's other game where only pride was at stake.
Rwanda were keen to impress the home fans and scored two first goals through Kamana Labama and Saidi Abed in Kigali.
Jeannot Witakenge and Olivier Karekezi struck the other goals as Rwanda climbed to six points, two more than Liberia.
