Kenya's Harambee Stars
Twahir Muhiddin will lead the Harambee Stars against Morocco

Newly-elected Kenya Football Federation (KFF) chairman Alfred Sambu has retained Twahir Muhiddin as the head coach of the national team Harambee Stars.

Sambu officially took over from the Fifa-appointed Normalisation Committee at a handing-over ceremony presided over by the minister in charge of sport Ochillo Ayacko in Nairobi on 29 December.

"The Harambee Stars are playing Morocco next month, so it's pointless to change the technical bench now,'' Sambu, a former chairman of one of Kenya's most successful clubs AFC Leopards, told BBC Sport.

"Twahir will continue handling Harambee Stars. If they do a good job, there will be no changes, if not we'll see what to do."

Kenya currently lie second in their World Cup qualifying group and travel to Rabat to face Morocco on 9 February for their next Group Five qualifier.

The fixture was postponed last year, while the Kenyans served a two-month suspension from the international game by football's world governing body Fifa.

Sambu also outlined other intentions he has for the Kenyan game.

"As the new boss in Kenya, I also intend to revamp youth football as well as inject professionalism into the sport which has been mismanaged for many years.''

The Normalisation Committee had been in office for three months under the chairmanship of former athlete Kipchoge Keino.

The former Olympic gold medallist, who also head Kenya's National Olympic Committee, has found football administration a whole new ball game.

"Running football is the most difficult job I've done as a sports administrator," Keino told BBC Sport.

"Besides too much politics, what I found out in my committee is that most of the officials were only interested in making money, not improving the game.''

Sambu has retained the Normalisation Committee secretary-general Sylvester Ashioya until his committee appoints a new man for the post as well as a financial controller.

Both jobs will be paid by Fifa in a new management structure.
