Coach Twahir Muhidin is confident Kenyan fans will be cheering again |
Kenya's newly appointed national coach Twahir Muhidin is confident that he can to lead the country to success. Despite a recent defeat to Botswana in a 2006 World Cup qualifier, following a three month ban by Fifa for government interference in the sport, Muhidin says he can turn things round.
''We have every reason to believe we can qualify despite the temporary setbacks, but we do need to improve on our endurance and speed," he told BBC Sport.
Muhidin, whose first game in charge will be against Guinea on 17 November, says he will do his homework on his opponents.
''I have collected tapes of games involving Guinea and I am studying them and we will organise ourselves in an orderly manner.
"I saw them play twice in contrasting styles, in the group stages it was like a sort of training game but then they played a very good game against Mali.
''Don't forget we beat them 1-0 in 1997 with a team of young unknown players and now with a better team we can do it again,'' said the former under-23 team coach.
Muhidin's appointment on Tuesday came after a certain amount of confusion between the Fifa-appointed Normalisation Committee and the Harambee Stars Management Board.
However members of the two bodies eventually agreed to appoint Muhidin to replace Jacob ''Ghost'' Mulee, who resigned on 15 October.
