Kenya move into third place in Group Five |
Goals from Dennis Oliech and Edwin Mkenya gave Kenya a 2-1 victory over Guinea in a Group Five World Cup qualifier on Wednesday. Guinea's Pascal Feindouno scored his country's lone goal.
The victory in Nairobi lifts the Harambee Stars, who played with a largely home-based squad, above African champions Tunisia in the group standings.
Previously fifth in the six-team group, the East Africans move into third place and are in contention for a spot at the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Oliech opened scoring in the ninth minute, with Feindouno getting Guinea's equaliser through an 18th minute penalty.
The winning goal from Mkenya did not come until the 70th minute.
Kenya's victory is the first competitive game for new coach Twahir Muhiddin, who replaced Jacob Mulee after a 2-1 loss to Botswana in their previous group game.
