Serbian Ratomir Dujkovic is the new coach of Ghana |
Serbian Ratomir Dujkovic has agreed a deal to be the new coach of Ghana. The 58-year old signed a two-year contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra.
He replaces Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto, who quit as coach in September to return home and manage domestic club Maritimo.
Dujkovic said that his main aim is to lead Ghana to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
"I'm very happy to get this job because this is a great opportunity to get Ghana to the World Cup and that is my objective," he said.
"I want to remain for as long as possible but you know and I know and everybody else knows that only results will keep me in this job."
Dujkovic is the Black Stars' fifth coach in two years but the GFA says they hope he will stay in Ghana much longer than his predecessors.
The GFA's vice-chairman, Kwasi Nyantekyi, said he is in no doubt that the association has landed the right man.
"This is a man with a great deal of experience and we have no doubt that he has the credentials to lead Ghana to the world cup and lay the foundation for a lasting and durable future," he said.
Dujkovic came to international prominence when he led Rwanda to their first African Cup of Nations finals earlier this year in Tunisia, ironically at the expense of Ghana.
However he left the Amavubi under a cloud after failing to agree a new contract with the Rwanda FA.
