Ratomir Dujkovic's contract with Rwanda has not been renewed

Swede Roger Palmgren has been appointed as the new coach of Rwanda.

The new coach made an immediate impact as he lead the Wasps to a 2-1 win over Uganda in Kampala on Saturday.

Rwanda's goals came from Jimmy Mulisa and Olivier Karekezi while Uganda's reply was scored by Eddy Sebalata.

"We are very happy to have a new coach and hope that we can go on and do even better," goalscorer Karekezi told BBC Sport.

Rwanda's football association (Ferwafa) has signed Palmgren on a new two year contract to replace Serb Ratomir Dujkovic.

The Serbian, who led Rwanda to their first ever African Cup of Nations this year, did not have his contract renewed when it ended on 30 July.

It is unclear why Dujkovic's contract was not renewed but he has been criticised for the 2-0 defeat at home to Zimbabwe in a 2006 World Cup qualifier and poor team selection.

Palmgren has previously worked in DR Congo and was also coach of Sierra Leone and his first big tasks will be to take Rwanda to a second Cup of Nations in 2006.

"I'm confident we'll qualify for the Nations Cup, but as for the World Cup, I need to see how the games progress," he said.

"We have all the material we need in Rwanda to do it."

Rwanda's next 2006 World Cup qualifier is away to Angola on 5 September.

The 40-year-old's contract means that he will also be the technical director of the under-20, under-19 and under-17 squads.
