Nonda has been plagued by injury for 16 months |
Monaco will not stand in the way of injury-hit Shabani Nonda if the Congolese forward decides to leave the club, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) reportedly showing an interest.
Nonda, the top scorer with 26 goals in the French first division two years ago, has been plagued by injury for 16 months, and his contract with Monaco is coming to an end.
With reports in the French press saying PSG wish to buy the DR Congo international at cut-price when the transfer window reopens in January, Monaco's sporting director Henri Biancheri said the move could go ahead if Nonda agrees.
"The club would listen to offers with a lot of attention because Shabani has only six months of his contract left," Biancheri said.
Rather than lose Nonda for nothing when his contract expires, Biancheri says a nominal fee - likely to be in the region of US$2m - would suit Monaco.
"It could interest both parties. If PSG are in an urgent position then they could be interested in Nonda," he said.
"If he gets all his abilities back, then PSG would not be making a mistake."
The 27-year-old Nonda has scored 88 league goals in 172 matches for Rennes and Monaco, and was valued at around US$20m before injury hit.
He tore knee ligaments against PSG in August 2003 but returned in April 2004 to help Monaco reach the Champions League final - scoring in the semi-final first-leg win against Chelsea.
Since then, his career has been stop-start with regular spells on the sidelines and he is not expected to play again until January.
"He is a lovely lad and a great player, someone I appreciate a lot," Biancheri said.
"But he has had no luck with injuries, and it is very frustrating."
