Frenchman Claude Leroy has ended his stint with the DR Congo |
Frenchman Claude Leroy has ended his coaching stint with the DR Congo after failing to agree a contract with the country's football federation, Fecofa.
Leroy's departure comes as the DR Congo are preparing to take on Burkina Faso in a 2006 World Cup qualifier in Kinshasa on Sunday.
Leroy has spent the last two weeks training the DR Congo in the hope that a contract could be sorted out.
The two parties have failed to reach an agreement and Leroy has decided to leave for Paris on Saturday.
"I've already booked my ticket on Air France and I fly tomorrow morning," Leroy told BBC Sport.
"I'm going because it seems to me that football is not a priority for the DRC authorities at the moment."
 | It's a pity for us, because we were hoping to build a stable national team with Claude Leroy |
The former Cameroon coach has had discussions with various people in Kinshasa including the President Joseph Kabila.
Leroy was trying to get some political backing for football should he could become the Simbas new coach.
Fecofa members have so far refused to comment on Leroy's decision to go back to Paris.
"As far as I am aware Claude Leroy is the coach for our national team, so I'm surprised to hear that, " Fecofa secretary general, Chiyoka Bashige told the BBC Sport.
"I was with Leroy this morning and the only thing we discussed was the match against Burkina Faso and he didn't tell me that he has booked a flight home."
Several overseas-based players, who are in Kinshasa for the Burkina Faso match, have expressed their disappointment at Leroy's departure.
"It's a pity for us, because we were hoping to build a stable national team with Claude Leroy, " the Bolton Wanders player, Lord Ndiwa told the BBC Sport.
