Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri's side beat Zambia 2-0 |
Zambia's preparations for the 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers have continued poorly with a 2-0 loss to Malawi.
Hellings Mwakasungulu and Heston Munthali scored in each half for Malawi to continue with their supremacy over Zambia.
Malawi outplayed their neighbours and controlled the whole match.
The visitors' first chance came after 11 minutes when Munthali blasted a wide shot after Zambian defender Evans Chisulo failed to clear.
However just four minutes later the Flames took the lead when Mwakasungulu's long range shot proved too hot to handle for Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene to hold.
Zambia's best players amongst an inexperienced team were the industrious Ian Bakala and Mumamba Numba.
After 36 minutes Zambia made their best counter attacking move involving Clive Mwale and Isaac Chansa.
Mwale fed Mwendabai in the box only for him to shoot straight into the arms of Malawian goalkeeper Philip Nyasulu.
Malawi's victory was sealed in the 70th minute when forward Munthali headed home a second goal.
Zambian coach Ben Bamfuchile said the match "was good training" for his squad.
Despite the team looking unstable, Bamfuchile declared his charges are "ready" for their first game in the 2006 qualifiers against Togo on 5 June.
His opposite number Kinnah Phiri said: "Although Zambia played a good game I think we were technically a better side and my side plays as a team."
Malawi's first 2006 qualifying match is at home to Morocco on 5 June.
