Zambia's Gift Kampamba has turned down a national call-up |
Gift Kampamba has refused to be part of Zambia's squad for their 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo on 5 June.
The Russia-based star was one of the 11 overseas-based players picked for the squad but says he will not play for the Chipolopolo until he is refunded US $1,600 that he has spent on air fares.
"I don't want to increase my debt with the Football Association of Zambia (Faz) and that's why I am saying they should pay me first," the Rostov player told the BBC.
"Unless they sort out my arrears, I will not come.
"It's a shame that we should still be talking about money which has been owed to me since last year."
Kampamba, whose problems over the money started in October last year, has also said that he has not even received an official invitation from Faz to join the squad.
German-based Moses Sichone has also said that he has not been informed of his call up to the squad.
The Cologne player says that he would not be joining the squad either until Faz sorts out the terms under which he will play.
George Kasengele chairman of the Faz technical committee has warned that the association will not tolerate players who shun national call-ups.
"This is a problem we inherited but we are eager to sort out the differences with the professional players," Kasengele said.
"The country must come first, we're not going to tolerate players who make unnecessary demands."
Meanwhile this Saturday Zambia host Malawi for a friendly as they continue their preparations for the Togo game the Chipolopolo then fly to Sudan for another game on 24 May.
