Nigeria's Olympic quest over
Nigeria's Mercy Akide
Mercy Akide scored Nigeria's lone goal

Nigeria's Super Falcons have been eliminated from the women's Olympic tournament after a 2-1 defeat to Germany in the quarter-final.

Former African Player of the Year Mercy Akide threatened an upset when she put the African champions ahead in the 49th minute.

But they were unable to cope with the incessant pressure from the world champions, who drew level through Steffi Jones in the 76th minute.

Conny Pohlers went on to hit the hit the winner in the 81st minute.

Germany's win now sets up a semi-final tie against the USA, the 1996 gold medallists.
