Super Falcons go through
Nigeria's Mercy Akide
Mercy Akide gave Nigeria a first-half lead

Nigeria's women lost 2-1 to Sweden in their final Group E game, but still booked their place in the quarter-finals.

Striker Mercy Akide gave the Super Falcons a first-half lead when she netted home a rebound off a powerful header in the 25th minute.

Yet the Swedes claimed victory through goals by Hanna Marklund in the 68th minute and Malin Mostroem five minutes later.

Including Japan, all three teams in Group E finished on three points.

Nigeria took second place, courtesy of having finished level on goal difference with Japan but having scored one goal more.

The Super Falcons now meet Germany, the only team to have won all their group games, in Patras on Friday 20 August.

In the other quarter-finals, America play Japan, Mexico take on Brazil and Sweden face Australia - with all four ties played on the same day.
