Kenya's coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee happy to be playing football again |
Kenya made their return to international football with a 1-1 draw against Uganda in a friendly on Saturday.
The match in Kampala was the Harambee stars first after Fifa provisionally lifted a ban imposed on 2 June for alleged government interference in the sport.
"We're happy to be back in international football and we'll get there slowly but surely," said Kenyan coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee.
Cranes skipper David Obua gave the hosts the lead with a 27th minute penalty after defender Mulinge Munandi had pulled down Simeon Masaba in the box.
The Harambee Stars two months in exile was evident in the first-half as they struggled to play together but they improved after half time and equalized in the 68th minute when substitute Mike Baraza headed home.
"We're happy to be back on the pitch and playing serious football," said Harambee Stars captain Nicholas Muyoti after the game.
Uganda's coach Mike Mutebi said that it was great to be able to welcome back their Kenyan brothers after the Fifa ban.
Both sides played without their foreign-based players and will play a second friendly in Kampala on Monday.
The pair are both preparing for next month's 2006 World Cup qualifying games, Uganda will face Burkina Faso while the Kenyans play Malawi .
