Fifa's Jerome Champagne is in Kenya to help the rebuilding process |
Fifa has said that it will provide financial assistance to restructure Kenyan football and prepare the country's national team for the 2006 World Cup qualifiers. The announcement was made by Fifa official Joseph Mifsud in Nairobi a day after football's world governing body provisionally lifted an international ban imposed on Kenya.
"We will give 147,000 dollars (US) as financial assistance to the Kenya Football Federation's Normalisation committee until elections are held in four months time," Mifsud said.
Mifsud, who is also the president of the Malta Football Association, leads a three-member delegation to discuss the way forward with Kenya authorities for football in the country.
Egypt's Taha Ismael and Fifa's deputy secretary general Jerome Champagne make up the three man team in Nairobi.
Mifsud said the Fifa World Cup organising committee would meet over the next few weeks to set new dates for the three qualifying matches that were postponed in the wake of the country's suspension from all international competitions on 2 June.
So far the Harambee Stars have missed games against Guinea, Morocco and Tunisia and their first match in Group Five of the qualifying campaign is scheduled to be at home to Malawi on 4 September.
Meanwhile Champagne said Kenya's progress to reintegrate itself into full recognition would be discussed at the next Fifa executive committee meeting on 6 October.
