Henri Michel is being tipped as the next Ivory Coast coach |
French coach Henri Michel has left 2003 Caf Cup winners Raja Casablanca of Morocco in order to lead the Ivory Coast's national team. According to Raja's club president Abdeslam Hanat, the former France, Morocco, Cameroon and Tunisia coach left by mutual consent.
"He has received an interesting offer to coach Ivory Coast, " Hanat said.
"Michel's experience with Raja was very positive as the team's results show."
Michel, who take charge of the Moroccan side in January 2003, led them to the Caf Cup title in November beating Cameroon's Cotonsport Garoua 2-0 on aggregate.
Raja have also qualified for this year's African Champions League thanks to Michel.
If confirmed as the new coach for the Elephants he would replace Robert Nouzaret who left post on 9 February.
Michel's main task would be to lead the Ivory Coast through the joint 2006 World Cup and Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they are in Group 3 along with Cameroon, Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Benin.
The Ivory Coast's campaign gets under way on 6 June with a home match against Libya.
