Nouzaret will act as advisor |
Veteran Ivory Coast coach Robert Nouzaret arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday to lend his tactical acumen to the cause of the country in the World Youth Championship. Nouzaret will act as an advisor to the coach Mamadou Ouattara for the under-20 tournament.
Ivory Coast qualified for the world event after finishing as runners-up at the African youth championship in Burkina Faso earlier this year
The Ivorians play their first game on Saturday when they face a tough Mexican side who have looked impressive in their training sessions.
The young Elephants will be pinning their hopes of two key players who have already played for the full national team.
Former ASEC Abidjan striker Nantcho Antonin Kouatan played in last year's African Champions League semi-finals before moving to Lorient in France via Qatar.
He also played for the Ivorian national team in a World Cup qualifier against the DR Congo in July, 2001.
Goalkeeper Daniel Yeboah, from the French club Bastia, has four full caps and is the most experienced member of the team.
But it remains to be seen whether he is still haunted by the gaffe that allowed South Africa to beat the Elephants 2-1 last June in their Nations Cup qualifier.
Yeboah missed failed to deal with an easy cross to allow South Africa's Shaun Bartlett to score what proved the decisive goal.
