The head of Tanzanian football is on the way out |
Football's world governing body, Fifa, has ordered the Football Association of Tanzania (Fat) general assembly to sack the current executive committee under Muhidin Ndolanga.
Fat will act to remove the controversial chairman in a meeting on Saturday.
This is after Fifa received a report from Dr Joseph Mifsud, who was sent last November to investigate a crisis that had erupted after the Ndolanga-led committee was suspended back in September.
Fifa spokesperson John Schumacher told BBC Sport that an interim administration committee would be formed to run Fat.
"Fifa has informed Fat to convene an Extraordinary General Assembly on 21 February to dissolve the present Executive Committee and appoint an Interim Administration Committee to run the daily business of Fat," Schumacher said.
"Following this, two Extraordinary General Assemblies will be called - the first by 31 May 2004 to approve the new statutes and the second by 30 June 2004 to elect the Fat Executive Committee in conformity with the new statutory provisions," Schumacher added.
Schumacher said that Fifa has already sent cash to pay per diems and allowances for delegates, who are arriving in Dar es Salaam for Saturday's meeting.
One of the delegates, Omary Chaka, said they were enthusiastic about the Fifa directives.
"What an opportunity to bring sanity back in Fat," Chaka told BBC Sport.
Chaka said he was confident the changes, which will see Ndolanga's 11-year reign end, will bring improvements in the way the country's football is run.
Fat was being run by an interim administration under Yahya Mhata, which will also be out of business on Saturday.
Ndolanga's committee was elected on 31 December 2001 and their four-year term in office was due to expire at the end of 2005.
