Desire Mbonabucya will captain Ratomir Dujkovic's team in Tunisia |
Rwanda's Serbian coach Ratomir Dujkovic has named his final 22-man squad for the country's first-ever African Cup of Nations finals.
The manager has drawn on many of the players who succesfully steered Rwanda to the finals in Tunisia.
However, at least three of the players who helped secure this historic success are missing.
One man who has not made the final cut is Claude Kalisa, after the central defender, who plays for Belgian side St Truiden, broke his leg during a 2006 World Cup and Cup of Nations qualifier against Namibia in October.
Two other players who will be disappointed not to be in Tunisia are midfielder Benoit Mukoko and goalkeeper Muhamed Mossi.
According to Rwandese football officials in the camp in Egypt, Mossi was not selected because he was overweight and his fitness levels were not up to standard.
The goalkeeper was also blamed for at least two of the five goals that Egypt recently put past Rwanda in a friendly on 8 January.
Yet the president of the Rwandese Football Federation told BBC Sport on Wednesday that the heavy defeat has not sapped the squad's morale.
"Spirits are still up despite the 5-1 defeat by Egypt, and the whole squad has learnt a great deal from that game," Caesar Kayisari said from the squad's camp in Egypt.
The Wasps still have plenty of sting up front though with the final twenty-two including Jimmy Gatete, who scored the crucial goal that beat Ghana to secure qualification, as well as the Belgium-based duo of Abed Saidi and captain Desire Mbonabucya.
The midfield will also have a familiar look run by the impressive APR FC pairing of Eric Nshimiyimana and the attack-minded Olivier Karakezi.
Rwanda have recently been in Marseille preparing for their Group A campaign against hosts Tunisia, Guinea and the DR Congo.
