Al-Saadi Gadaffi has tested positive for nandrolone |
The Italian Olympic Committee (Coni) has announced that Perugia's Libyan striker Al-Saadi Gaddafi has tested positive for a metabolite of the banned steroid nandrolone.
Gaddafi, the son of Libyan leader Muammar, was found to have an amount of norandrosterone - a metabolite of nandrolone - that exceeded the allowable limit.
Coni said the sample from Gaddafi was taken after a Serie A match between Perugia and Reggina on 5 October.
Gaddafi is the second African player in Italian football to fail a drugs test - Inter Milan's Sierra Leonean striker Mohammed Kallon tested positive for the same substance in October.
Gaddafi, a Libyan international and vice-president of his national football federation, has not yet represented Perugia since signing for the Umbrian club in June.
Regulations allow the 30-year-old player, who is automatically suspended from the league, to demand a test on his 'B' sample within 10 days.
If the second test confirms the result from the first sample, Gaddafi could face a two-year ban from competitive football.
