Enyimba chairman Felix Agwue knows how important the semi-final is |
Enyimba are attempting to become the first Nigerian side to reach a Champions League final as they travel to Algeria to play USMA in Friday's semi-final first leg. The Algerian side have switched their training sessions to night-time in a bid to come to terms with their fasting during Ramadan.
It is just three days into the holy month and the Algerian players are worried about not having enough time to adapt to the fasting.
"We had problems in the beginning, especially since Ramadan started only a couple of days ago, and we hope this won't affect our physical condition," team captain Zeghdoud Mounir explained.
USMA must also forget their 1-0 midweek loss to UCS in a league encounter.
"We are focused on our match against Enyimba and this is all that matters right now," coach Asmy Abdel Wahab said.
Meanwhile Enyimba chairman Felix Agwue knows just how important this match is to Nigeria.
"It is important we perform well so as to become the first-ever Nigerian side to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League," he told BBC Sport.
"We don't know too much about our opposition - only what we have seen on a few videos - but we can see that they are a good side, very tough and fast.
"I don't like to predict the scores in football matches but we hope to come home with a win," he added.
Enyimba were the winners of Group A but their away form has not been good, having been thrashed 6-1 by Ismailia while surprise package Simba beat them 2-1 in Tanzania.
Meanwhile, USMA finished second in Group B despite losing their first two matches.
