James Sianga'a must lead Simba to victory in Abidjan |
Simba coach James Sianga'a believes his team will cause the major upset of the Champions League group series when they take on Asec Mimosas in their final Group A tie in Abidjan on 18 October.
If the Tanzanian champions are to reach the Champions League semi-finals, they must beat Asec and hope that second-placed Enyimba, who have nine points, lose at home to group A leaders Ismailia.
Sianga'a's conversation with Ismailia officials, following their September tie in Egypt, leaves him convinced that the north Africans will beat the Nigerian champions in Aba.
"I know Ismailia does not want to meet Esperance, who are leading the other group, in the semi-finals. They will do all they can to top the group.
"Ismailia officials told us they would prefer that we join them by finishing second in the group," Sianga'a told BBC Sport website.
Simba plan to leave for the Ivory Coast next Wednesday and Sianga'a firmly believes his team can get the needed win in Abidjan.
"Asec are last and have no hope of qualifying, so we are going flat out to win and get 10 points."
Sianga'a, who has been put on a monthly contract since his long-term deal expired in March, is hoping that Simba's management will reward him with a new deal.
"At the moment, club officials are telling me to prepare a team for next year. So that proves that they might need me," he said.
