Simba's dreams are still alive |
Tanzania's Simba SC kept their Champions League hopes alive after holding group A favourites Ismailia to a 0-0 draw in Dar-es-Salaam on Sunday. Ismailia's water-tight defence, which has conceded just one goal in seven matches, was again solid and offered few scoring opportunities.
The visitors stay top of the group with five points, one ahead of Simba, the surprise packages of the competition.
Simba striker Emmanuel Gabriel did have the ball in the back of the net midway through the first half but was ruled offside.
Both goalkeepers had a quiet afternoon with the bumpy surface making it difficult to create chances.
"We did come here to attack and to take all three points but Simba were a very physical side and did not let us play out normal passing gamer," said Ismailia coach Theo Bucker.
"But were on course for the semi-finals, so we cannot be disappointed."
In the other group A match played on Sunday, Enyimba of Nigeria beat ASEC of the Ivory Coast 3-1.
An own goal from Dacosta Goore after just four minutes set the Nigerian side on their way to victory.
Two more strikes from Ndidi Anumnu and sealed victory. The Ivorians got their consolation goal through Koffi Ndri.
