Fifa to probe Tanzanian crisis

Football's world governing body Fifa is set to intervene in the current crisis within the Football Association of Tanzania (Fat).

Fifa has announced it will investigate the suspension of the Fat executive committee, after the Fat general assembly replaced the 15-man body with an interim committee earlier this week.

"Fifa will send an ad-hoc delegation to Tanzania and discuss with all the parties involved," Nicolas Maingot, a Fifa media department official, told BBC Sport.

Maingot added that Fifa will decide what action - if any - to take after analysing the delegation's report, although no date has yet been set for the delegation's arrival in Tanzania.

The Fat general assembly suspended the executive committee for allegedly neglecting their duties, after chairman Muhidin Ndolanga and general secretary Michael Wambura had a series of disagreements.

The duo have accused each other of incompetence and fought two court battles earlier this year.

The crisis within Fat could overshadow Tanzania's preparations for next month's crucial 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier against Kenya.
