A career with Italian club Perugia could force Libya's Al Saadi Gadaffi to abandon his ambition to become the president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf)
"If things go well with Perugia, I might withdraw from the Caf presidential race," Gadaffi told the pan-Arabic TV channel Al Arabia News.
"I need to concentrate more on my career, as I feel that am playing a lot better now."
Although many commentators have described Gadaffi's move to Italy as a publicity stunt, Perugia president Luciano Gaucchi said the attacking midfielder earned his one-year contract on merit.
Gadaffi, a vice-president of Libya's FA, and Botswana's Ismail Bhamjee are challenging the incumbent Issa Hayatou.
The Caf presidential election is fixed for January 2004 in Tunisia.
