Leekens may coach Belgian side Mouscron |
George Leekens has resigned as coach of Algeria, just a week after seeing them through to next year's Nations Cup tournament in Tunisia. The Belgian coach has cited family reasons for his short stay with the Desert Warriors, but other reports say he has been offered a job at Excelsior Mouscron.
Leekens had signed a two-year contract, but on Thursday he met with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) boss Mohamed Raouraoua in Paris to discuss the termination of his contract.
Leekens will officially quit after Algeria's last Nations Cup qualifying game against Chad on 6 July.
It is being speculated that French coach Pierre Lechantre will replace Leekens.
The Belgian coach was in charge of five matches with the Desert Warriors after he signed last February, winning and losing two games and drawing one.
Algeria booked their place to next year's Nations Cup after beating Namibia 1-0 in Blida on 20 June.
