Leekens to discuss future with Algerian federation |
Algerian manager Georges Leekens is on the brink of handing his resignation to the football federation. According to Algerian newspaper reports, the Belgian-born trainer will return to his homeland and take over league club Excelsior Mouscron.
A termination meeting between Leekens and Mohamed Raouraoua, president of the Algerian Football Federation, has been scheduled for Friday in Paris.
Former Cameroon coach Pierre Lechantre is favoured to be Leekens' replacement.
Leekens' imminent arrival at Mouscron was also announced by the Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure, which said he would be working with former Belgian international Lorenzo Staelens.
Leekens, a former Belgium national coach, has only spent four months out of a two year contract with the north African country.
Since February, the Belgian has had five games in charge - winning and losing twice, while drawing one game.
He has piloted the Fennecs to the 2004 Nations Cup finals, although he had the advantage of playing against Chad and Namibia in a weak Group 12.
