Fortune (right) could miss crucial game |
South African football officials are still unable to locate missing midfielder Quinton Fortune. The Manchester United player did not turn up for recent friendlies against England and Trinidad & Tobago and failed to explain the reasons behind his absence.
Fortune is expected to play a key role in Sunday's vital Nations Cup qualifier against the Ivory Coast in Polokwane.
"We don't know where Quinton is at the moment.
"His mobile phone is off and he cannot be traced," said Molefi Oliphant, president of the South African Football Association.
"But the management is keeping on trying to get hold of Quinton."
Former national coach Jomo Sono believes Fortune's disappearance can be attributed to his disappointment at being left out of the initial squad to face England.
But despite the midfielder's continuing absence, Oliphant confirmed Fortune remains a key figure in Bafana Bafana's plans.
"He's one of our best players based outside the country.
"A player of Quinton Fortune's calibre must always be in the team."
