Zambian defender Moses Sichone remembers perished stars |
Zambian defender Moses Sichone has said that the generation of the national team which was wiped out in the air crash of 1993 is irreplaceable.
Sichone who plays for the German side FC Koln was speaking ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the tragedy which Zambia will mark next Monday.
In the morning of 28 April 1993, 30 players, officials and crew perished off the coast of Gabon on their way to a World Cup qualifying game in Senegal.
"It is a day that everyone should remember because that team used to bring glory all the time," Sichone said.
"They were our heroes. I remember that team every time I pray. They achieved a lot.
"I don't think we will have a team like that in future so we the current players should try at least to emulate them.
"Each player in the new team should remember that there's a player who did better in that position 10 years ago."
