Ghana are currently considering the applications of four coaches for the post, one of which is Ziese, who was previously in charge in the early 1990s. And the German told the BBC why he felt it was now time for him to return.
"I run two big companies in Germany, I have an international soccer school, I'm running courses here for the German FA. "Other coaches have to go and participate in refresher courses. I am the one that runs them." Ghanaian Emmanuel Afranie is currently in temporary charge - and has himself applied for the job on a permanent basis - but Zeise attacked the selection policy of his rival. "This is not a Black Star team. This is a different team," he said of Afranie's approach, which has been to base the team primarily around the successful Under-20 side. And Ziese made no apologies for his reputation which has seen him become famous - as former boss of both the Black Stars and Zambia - as one of the most controversial names in African football. "Controversial? I agree - I have more ideas and better ideas than the others because I am independent," he stated. "Some - who do not know what really happened - called my time with Zambia disastrous. Yes - but only for Zambia." | Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
