A huge debate is currently raging in the country over whether the job should go to a foreign coach, as favoured by the FA, or to a Ghanaian. But Afranie made it clear that he was convinced a local coach could do every bit as good a job as a foreigner. "There are some doubting Thomases in this country - some people believe only an expatriate can make it," he said. "But after three weeks of camping we were able to beat Benin 3-0. "To me personally, this is a big boost for me to go ahead in my job - as caretaker or whatever." He also outlined his record in charge of the team so far.
"We have beaten Lesotho, we have beaten Benin now, we have drawn with Egypt in Cairo. "So I think that I am on course." He emphasised too that he was building his team in the way he wanted it, and already had an overall plan. "I think that between now and when play our next serious game - a Nations Cup qualifier against Uganda - you will see why we put these boys together. " We will definitely qualify for Tunisia 2004." | Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
