| Wednesday, 20 November, 2002, 21:01 GMT Nigeria held at home ![]() Nigeria could only draw against the Reggae Boyz An untried Nigeria could only manage a goal-less draw with Jamaica in Lagos. A Super Eagles side missing almost all of its star names spluttered rather than flowed against a thrown-together Jamaica side. Nevertheless, Nigeria had the better of the chances, and should have won comfortably. On the Super Eagles team-sheet only Peter Ijeh's name really stood out. Ijeh is the top scorer in Sweden this year, and was winning his first cap for Nigeria against the Reggae Boyz. Ijeh had a great chance to open his international scoring account in the 15th minute, but fired wide when well placed.
Each side had a couple of good chances in the first half, but with both keepers on fine form the period ended scoreless. Nigerian shotstopper Vincent Enyeama, who played in the World Cup against England, was particularly impressive. One save in the 42nd minute, from a point blank header, was top drawer, but generally Enyeama had an untroubled evening. Jamaica improved somewhat in the second half, but not sufficiently to pierce the Nigerian rearguard. The Super Eagles should really have won the match, too, but passed up a succession of presentable opportunities in the closing minutes. The game ended with the home fans calling for the appointment of a foreign coach to replace incumbent Christian Chukwu. | See also: 19 Nov 02 | Africa 20 Nov 02 | Africa 20 Nov 02 | Portsmouth Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
