Barakat, the current Egyptian Player of the Year, was offered to the club by the president of Egyptian side Ismailia. Ismailia are currently in the midst of a financial crisis and hoped that the sale of the midfielder - for a fee of around $2m (1.3m) - would generate much-needed funds. But Fulham's owner, Mohamed al Fayed, declined the offer. "Fulham officially informed us that they are not interested in signing our man," said Ismailia's president Ismaiel Osman. "Mohamed al Fayed, the owner of Fulham, informed me that there will be no offer for Barakat as Fulham's squad is complete, with many good players in his position." But Osman added that the Fulham rejection did not mean the player would be staying at the club. "We are discussing three other European offers for our player, who attracted the interest of a Swiss club as well," he said. "We will be studying these offers to decide which will be the most beneficial for us." Barakat was one of Egypt's few stars at the African Nations Cup in Mali and received his Player of the Year title after helping Ismailia to the National League title for only the third time in their history. The 27-year old was one of the few players who were retained in the new Egypt squad announced on Monday by national team boss Mohsen Saleh. | Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
