Cruyff, who left United in 1998, scored for current side Alaves in a pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough on Wednesday. Fulham's technical director Franco Baresi watched him in action in an earlier friendly at Portsmouth last Saturday. Baresi could finance the deal by selling Barry Hayles to West Brom and Eddie Lewis to Preston. "I'm aware of what's going on although I haven't been told officially," Cruyff said. "I know the Premier League from my time with Manchester United but at the moment I'm happy in Spain and I haven't contemplated leaving Alaves." 'Crazy' Earlier in the week, Cruyff appeared happy to contemplate a return to England. "I love the English game," he said. "I don't think there is any doubt the Premiership is the best league in the world so I'd be crazy not to consider coming back." Capped nine times for Holland, Cruyff, the son of Dutch legend Johan, began his career at Barcelona but moved to United shortly after his father was sacked as coach in 1996. He had a spell on loan with Celta de Vigo during the 1998-99 season and returned to Spain on a permanent basis in 2000 when he joined Alaves. |
