Megson hints at Sibaya deal
MacBeth Sibaya
Sibaya is currently one of SA's few home-based players
The manager of English Premiership club West Bromwich Albion, Gary Megson, has said he remains interested in signing South Africa midfielder MacBeth Sibaya - provided conditions are right.

Sibaya has been on trial with the club for a week during their tour of Devon.

He is now returning home to South African club Jomo Cosmos, but Megson has by no means ruled out following up his interest in the 24-year-old.

"We need to speak to MacBeth's agent and his club to see where we go from here," Megson said.

"Whether we sign him depends on a few things, like the fee, his wages and whether he fancies it himself. There's also a work permit issue."

Megson was impressed with Sibaya after his performances for Bafana Bafana during the World Cup.

But he added that it was hard to know what to expect from him after only a week's trial without playing a competitive game.

"MacBeth has trained with us and he's got good touch and movement but it is very, very difficult to judge a player in training," Megson said.

Meanwhile, defender Phil Gilchrist is to rejoin Albion back in the West Country after recovering well from an ankle injury.

The former Leicester player was taken off on a stretcher with strained ligaments during last Saturday's pre-season game with Bromsgrove Rovers.
