After a Wednesday meeting with Irvin Khoza, an influential Safa official, Sono was persuaded to change his mind about resigning. He will manage the Bafana-Bafana in the regional Cosafa Castle Cup competition. Before his meeting with Khoza, Sono had recommended that he be replaced by Trott Moloto and Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba. Inspite of being the leading team in the South African region, the Bafana- Bafana have never won the Cosafa Cup, a fact that has been a source of embarrassment. Sono will be on the bench when South Africa meet Madagascar in the quarter-finals of the Cosafa Cup on 21 July in Port Elizabeth. If Bafana Bafana win the tie, Sono could be in charge for a further five games - if South Africa get to the final. Malawi and Swaziland are already through to the last four, with the winner of Saturday's quarter-final tie between Zambia and Mozambique taking the other semi-final place. | See also: 03 Jul 02 | Africa 11 May 02 | South Africa 10 Jun 02 | South Africa Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
