By Mark Mitchener

1429: Well, it wasn't a classic and wasn't pretty at times, but England got the job done and will be playing at next summer's Uefa European Under-21 Championship in Denmark. Romania? You leave with nothing. Make sure you join Chris Bevan later for the full internationals - thanks for your company, and I hope you'll join me the next time I'm on live text duty. Hopefully it'll be to the sound of flying Aussie stumps in the Ashes...

Full time
FULL TIME - ROMANIA U21 0-0 ENGLAND U21
(England win 2-1 on aggregate and qualify for Euro 2011)

1426: It's "lump it forward as quickly as possible" time for Romania, who seem to have lost some of their earlier fluency. Phil Jones plays England into trouble and Ryan Bertrand has to lump it out for a throw. Romania win a corner, goalkeeper Lung asks permission from his coach to go forward, but is refused... why? Have they never heard of Jimmy Glass?

1425: Four minutes of stoppage time to be added. I'm not sure what the Romanian for "We can see you sneaking out" is, but the home crowd are starting to leave in droves as Jack Cork makes a good challenge to keep the ball up the pitch and away from the England area.

1424: Team Danny is no more as Danny Welbeck is replaced by Nathan Delfouneso just as the clock reaches 90 minutes. Into stoppage time.

1420: Romania desperately pushing for a goal as we enter the last five minutes in Botosani. Chiriches lumps it forward, England have another corner to defend. It's that man Gangioveanu taking the corner, which Fielding catches... and drops... and is thankfully hoofed forward. Nothing personally against the young Blackburn stopper, but he's not had the best of games today. But England won't mind if he can hang on for a clean sheet...

1418: Sorry, Cork was England's second change... it nearly looks as though Team Danny's third member will be coming off as Welbeck takes a tumble and needs some treatment. Nathan Delfouneso is standing by, but isn't needed just yet.

1416: Second substitution from England as Jack Cork replaces Danny Rose in midfield, and two-thirds of Team Danny are now off the field. (And Ioan Hora was the man replaced for the third Romanian sub). Into the last 10 minutes - still goalless, England still 2-1 up on aggregate.

From SAFC - Keep The Red Flag Flying High on 606: "Re: Maverick 1347) - Because he plays for Arsenal. Henderson plays for us (Sunderland) for 90 minutes every week. He is consistently our best midfielder. However because he isn't at one of the top clubs he will be overlooked, because surely all the top young players must play for the top clubs. England's failures at senior level stem from our poor youth policy."

1411: Substitutes Chiriches and Rusescu both blaze high and wide and Romania make their third substitution. My spell-checker may not be able to take it - Constantin Gangioveanu enters the action. England keeper Frank Fielding is equal to a long-range shot from Stefan Barboianu.

Yellow card
1407: Romania sub: Raul Rusescu replaces fellow striker Marius Alexe. Meanwhile, Monsieur Fautrel brandishes a yellow card at Valerica Gaman for a foul just outside the box. Cleverley floats in a free kick which Silviu Lung parries to safety. Just needed a touch from a England player and it would have been 3-1 on aggregate, but we're still goalless.

1405: Corner to England, plenty of shirt-pulling in the area and Cleverley appears to give the referee something that may have been thrown from the crowd. Corner is cleared.

1403: Sabrin Sburlea shoots from about 30 yards, England keeper Frank Fielding again doesn't handle cleanly but he gets his body behind it and smothers the shot. Still goalless.

Yellow card
1402: Some over-exuberance earns Tom Cleverley England's fourth yellow card. Nick (see below), Marc Albrighton's injured - he has a groin problem.

From Nick in Norwich, via text: "I was at Carrow Road on Friday and Albrighton was superb when he came on. Why is he not even on the bench?"

1359: If he eventually makes the full side, will Henri Lansbury be the first Henri to play for England since left-arm spinner Philippe Henri Edmonds?

Yellow card
1353: Slight delay while Sturridge needs a bit of treatment from the England physio. England have half an hour left to play, the score as it stands will see them go through but they must beware hanging on for a 0-0 draw, when all it takes is one Romanian goal to change the complexion of the game. Vlad Chiriches (pronounced "Kirikesh") replaces Cornel Rapa (pronounced "Ripper") in Romania's first change - while England bring Henri Lansbury on for the limping Sturridge. To add insult to injury, Sturridge is shown a yellow card (as he limps off) for not leaving the field of play quickly enough!

1351: Teasing cross from the left by Danny Rose, but it beats Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck (the three of them forming "Team Danny" in attack for England today) and all the Romanian defenders.

Text in your views on 81111 (UK) or +44 7786200666 (worldwide)
From Maverick, Edinburgh, via text: "Given that Henderson completely overshadowed Wilshere in the first leg and over the season, why isn't he in the full squad? Capello's loss, Pearce's gain."

1347: Still goalless in Botosani, though the rest of this office is suddenly whooping with joy as another medal is won at the Commonwealth Games - and elsewhere on the BBC Sport website, Ollie Williams is keeping you up to date with all the latest news from Delhi.

Yellow card
1342: Something the TV commentator admits to missing - and I admit to missing too, as it wasn't made particularly clear by Monsieur Fautrel - England's Danny Rose was booked for a handball in the first half, just before Michael Mancienne's yellow card. Rose nearly redeems himself by playing in Tom Cleverley in a dangerous position, but Cleverley is flagged offside.

1340: England keeper Frank Fielding is way out of his area again in a mix-up with his central defenders, but the visitors get it clear. But Fabrice Muamba, who's had a quiet game so far, rather rashly trips Eric Bicfalvi just outside the area, albeit on the corner of the 18-yard box. Free-kick to Romania - and Gabriel Torje smacks it straight into the wall.

1338: A quick note - you may have noticed that we've had one or two technical problems today - to whit, the auto-updating text is refusing to play ball. The technical team are working on it, but for now I'm afraid you're going to have to get reacquainted with your F5 key or other method of manually refreshing the page. We've kicked off again - one of these sides is 45 minutes away from a trip to Denmark this summer. (The other one will be too, but only if they buy a package tour to the original Legoland).

1333: Wales kick off slightly earlier at 1930 BST and have a lot of injury problems for their game with Switzerland in Basle - but captain Ashley Williams is backing Tottenham's Gareth Bale to shine against the Swiss. And the earliest of the four Home Nations to kick off will be Northern Ireland, whose game against the Faroe Islands starts at 1600 BST. But lmanager Nigel Worthington has warned against complacency when they face the traditional "minnows". We're almost ready to restart in Botosani.

1329: Up at Hampden Park tonight (2000 BST), Scotland boss Craig Levein feels they are facing the best side Scotland have ever played when they play Spain tonight. High praise from a man who must be old enough to remember the 1970s and 1980s where Scotland not only qualified for World Cups (including some England "did nae qualify" for, as the song went) but seemed to play the likes of Brazil and the Netherlands all the time. Meanwhile, BBC Scotland's Alasdair Lamont has analysed how Scotland can stop the world champions.

1327: While you munch on your half-time oranges, let's take a quick look at this evening's games. England will welcome Rio Ferdinand back as captain for tonight's game with Montenegro at Wembley (2000 BST). You can read a couple of blogs looking ahead to the game - Phil McNulty feels Rio is lucky to regain the armband, while Jonathan Stevenson has had a chat with the Montenegro coach - who's Niko Kranjcar's dad, wouldn't you know - about their attempts to qualify for their first tournament as an independent nation.

1324: Steady if unspectacular from England - they've had a couple of chances, but will look to snuff out the threat posed by Gabriel Torje, who looks capable of producing something out of nothing. I checked with the FA this morning, and away goals count after 90 minutes (as per Champions League rules) - so a 1-0 Romania win would see the hosts go through.

Half time
1323: HALF-TIME ROMANIA U21 0-0 ENGLAND U21
(England lead 2-1 on aggregate)

1321: More calamity keeping from Fielding, who is caught just outside his box by a bouncing ball, it looked for a minute as though the Romanian forward was set to lob it over him for a simple goal. The Blackburn stopper takes his gloves off and puts them on again - does that have the same effect as turning your computer off and turning it on again? We're into first-half stoppage time...

Yellow card
1318: First booking of the game as England's Michael Mancienne is cautioned for a foul 30 yards out. The little magician Gabriel Torje's free kick deceives everyone, Fielding sees it late as it dips and he has to push it away for a corner, which is cleared.

1315: Fielding gets down well as right-back Cornel Rapa (pronounced "Ripper" - my keyboard doesn't stretch to many of these Romanian diacritics ) breaks forward and unleashes a low shot. Still goalless, and England 2-1 ahead on aggregate.

1312: England coach Stuart Pearce looks like the Man at (insert name of department store) in a smart dark suit and dark tie. He's a relatively restrained figure so far, while his Romanian counterpart is dressed in a tracksuit and chewing gum. Suddenly, Torje's shot from distance is parried by Frank Fielding and comes straight out to Stefan Barboianu, who unselfishly squares the ball to Marius Alexe... who scuffs his shot high and wide.

1308: Ioan Hora lofts in a cross from the Romanian right but England keeper Frank Fielding plucks it out of the air like Paul Collingwood taking catching practice. As the visitors break, Danny Rose wins a corner on the left, but Tom Cleverley can't beat the first man at the near post.

1306: The massed ranks of England stand tall as Romania threaten, then left-back Paul Papp leaves his foot in on England's Danny Welbeck, who takes a tumble. England's front two of Welbeck and Sturridge are working hard on and off the ball.

From We all follow United on 606: "Re: 1245. I remember that Lung only went the right way for one of the penalties, and even that passed straight through him as though he was a ghost. Hopefully his son is no better."

1303: The diminutive Gabriel Torje outpaces fellow skipper Michael Mancienne down England's right, but the visiting captain recovers to clear. Torje then goes down clutching his face, but from the replay it looked like he walked into Mancienne's elbow as the Chelsea defender (on loan at Wolves) turned away with the ball.

1301: The Romanian crowd are in good voice, and are trying to get a Mexican wave going. Meanwhile, Monsieur Fautrel has a quick word with England's Danny Welbeck for putting the ball in the net after being pulled up for offside. A stricter ref may have booked the Manchester United youngster (on loan at Sunderland).

1258: Chris Smalling is furious with the way Valerica Gaman, up from the back, is wrestling Smalling's shirt off his back before a free-kick is taken. French referee Fredy Fautrel (sounds like a character from a Pink Panther film) has to have a word with the pair, who are both wearing number five. Torje's free kick almost has England in a bit of bother, but it's still goalless.

1256: England are having plenty of possession, but Romania still look dangerous as Sabrin Sburlea's right-wing cross just evades everyone. Eric Bicfalvi bursts forward from midfield for the hosts, but Phil Jones is strong in defence for England.

1252: Captain Gabriel Torje is apparently known as the Lionel Messi of Romania, but scoops the free-kick tamely over the bar.

1251: Daniel Sturridge bursts through, one on one with the keeper as he outpaces two defenders, but it's a weak shot from his weaker right foot and Lung parries the ball to safety. Romania burst to the other end and Chris Smalling concedes a free kick in a dangerous position for a high foot...

1249: That's, erm, clever from Cleverley as the Manchester United youngster (on loan at Wigan) shows the Romanian defence some trickery before winning England's first corner. It's easily cleared, though.

It's sunny
1248: Still gloriously sunny in Botosani, the game has calmed down a little after the opening exchanges.

1245: Tom Cleverley whips in a free kick, and defender Phil Jones just gets his head to it ahead of Lung, but can't keep his header on target. Anyone else remember Lung's old man, droopy moustache and all, failing to stop any of the Republic of Ireland's penalties in Italia 90?

1243: Home skipper Gabriel Torje is lively in the opening exchanges, but England break down the right and Daniel Sturridge forces a good save from Romania keeper Silviu Lung - whose father of the same name was Romania's keeper at the 1990 World Cup.

1241: Romania are off to a flier as they look to peg back England, who lead 2-1 from the first leg. Holding midfielder Florin Gardos sets up Sabrin Sburlea, who arrives in the box but spoons his shot over the bar from about 15 yards.

1237: The game is not even a minute old when England keeper Frank Fielding has to turn a shot from Gabriel Torje around the post for a corner, which is cleared.

1235: We're ready to go - England in white shirts, blue shorts and white socks (although some of their kit was delayed by a weight limit on the plane). There's a capacity crowd of just over 6,000, mainly supporting the Romanians in all yellow. England are looking to qualify for their third successive Euro Under-21 Championship.

1229: Time for the anthems. England's first - the band strikes up with the first few lines of "God Save The Queen" as an instrumental piece, which catches a few players out when a female singer then starts from the beginning. There's no such overture to "Desteapta-te, romane!" - which roughly translates as "Awaken thee, Romanian!" - we're straight in with a stirring anthem with multiple singers.

1227: One change for Romania from the first leg - Sabrin Sburlea is preferred to Ionut Neagu, who's on the bench.

Get involved on 606
From JimboHammers - Sir Bobby Moore on 606: "Attacking line up from England, lots of pace going forward with Wellbeck, Sturridge and Rose."

1220: Teams are already in - England coach Stuart Pearce makes one change from the first leg, bringing in Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge in place of Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, who has been called into the senior squad.

Romania U21: Lung, Rapa, Papp, Barboianu, Gaman, Gardos, Hora, Bicfalvi, Alexe, Torje, Sburlea. Subs: Lungu, Chiriches, Rusescu, Ilie, Neagu, Ionescu, Gingioveanu.
England U21: Fielding, Mancienne, Smalling, Jones, Bertrand, Rose, Muamba, Cleverley, Henderson, Welbeck, Sturridge. Subs: Loach, Lansbury, Kelly, Cork, Walker, Trippier, Delfouneso.
Referee: Fredy Fautrel (France)

1215: Afternoon, everyone - and a warm welcome, as I'm your warm-up man for this afternoon and evening's international football action, when Chris Bevan will be in the chair as England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland all have Euro 2012 qualifiers. But first up are England Under-21s, who are out in Romania for the second leg of their Euro 2011 play-off. Kick-off in Botosani is at 1230 BST.
