Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington hit out at the attitude of his players after being held to a 1-1 draw by the Faroe Islands in Toftir.
"I am pleased to be coming away with a point after that performance as we could have lost all three," he said.
"The mindset is a wonderful thing - if it is not attuned right to what you are doing then that is what can happen.
"You are off the mark, sloppy in your passing, the energy levels are not there and that was us in this game."
The result is a massive setback for Northern Ireland in the Euro 2012 qualifiers after beating Slovenia and drawing with Italy in their opening two qualifiers.
"We could have had seven points at this time and that would have been very nice," added Worthington.
"Having five points with two away games so far is not disappointing but it could have been better."
Faroe Islands boss Brian Kerr admitted it had been a "very, very good day" for his part-time team.
The former Republic of Ireland manager Kerr, whose parents are from Belfast, saw his side lead through Christian Holst before being pegged back by Kyle Lafferty's equaliser.
"We were always going to be under pressure, with some of the class players they have," said Kerr.
"It was a brave performance, I think we at least deserved a point.
"It's a very, very good day. I had a couple of good days last year, when we beat Lithuania it was a great day.
"Being from Ireland and having so many relations in Ireland, my parents are from Belfast, it was a good day. Many people in Ireland will have watched the game."
