Jersey footballer Marc Whiteman hopes to get the chance to play at Wembley with his current club Whitehawk.

The Sussex County League Division One leaders travel to Yorkshire side Marske in an FA Vase quarter-final replay.

"It's an exciting time, but it's quite difficult to keep your feet on the ground and not dream of playing at Wembley," he told BBC Jersey.

Whiteman left Jersey as a trainee with Manchester United but his spell at the club was ended by injuries.

The 27-year-old says is now fully focused on being successful with his current club.

I've just tried to make the best of what I've got. I'm the top scorer of the club with 17 goals so far this season, even though I've still had injuries

"Major investors last summer put money into the squad," Whiteman said. "They are looking to build a new stand and other facilities, with the aim of getting four promotions in the next five seasons."

Whiteman played for United's youth team 10 years ago during one of the annual International Football Tournaments at Springfield.

"I remember that very fondly," he added. "A really nice moment. Scoring in front of your 'home' support and your family in the place where you grew up is pretty special."

But injuries ruined his chances a career in English football's top flight.

"Unfortunately I suffered quite a few injuries, mainly on my ankles - it seemed to be my downfall," he added.

"I've just tried to make the best of what I've got. I'm the top scorer of the club with 17 goals so far this season, even though I've still had injuries."
