Three teams from Jersey Bobsleigh Club will be in action this weekend at the Army Novice and Junior Championships in Igls, Austria.

The Championships are only open to drivers who are in their first season of bobsleigh competition.

Jersey is sending two women's teams with Jenny Acton-Phillips paired with Laura Jacques, whilst Jessica Lee-Channing races alongside Alex Parkes.

The men's crew consists of Paul Murray and Brian Walshe.

The six bobsleighers will compete to navigate the 1220 metre track at Igls, with speeds of around 75mph expected.

Jersey's coach Colin Campbell said although the team are relative newcomers, they have all taken to the sport very quickly.

He said: "They have all trained very hard and consistently with the club and are thus very fit at this stage in their bobsleigh careers.

"In addition they have the advantage of having worked on their starting technique on our own push start track, something very few of the other competitors will have had the opportunity to experience."

Jersey's Jo Matthews will also be in Austria, competing in the skeleton bob.
