Whitchurch Alport celebrate winning the Shropshire Challenge Cup
Whitchurch Alport caused a dramatic upset in the Shropshire Challenge Cup final, beating Wellington Amateurs 1-0 after extra-time.
With the sides locked at 0-0, a goal from John Farrell in the final seconds clinched it for Alport.
"I was quite tired but it was a great cross from Lee Stephens, I just had to hit it," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
Wellington burst forward from the kick-off but were denied by a goal-line clearance from Phil Benson.
"I saw the ball come over, the guy headed it and I thought - I've just got to get my foot on it, and it went over," said Benson.
Alport - from the mid-Cheshire League - were the underdogs, but more than held their own in an end-to-end 120 minutes.
"It doesn't get any better than this," captain Derryl Thornton said as he was presented with the trophy.
Wellington will now concentrate on picking up the two points they need to clinch promotion from the West Midlands League Division One to the Premier Division.
