Foster 73 in vain for Shrewsbury

Shropshire skipper Ed Foster hit 73 of Shrewsbury's 189, but they slipped to a one-wicket defeat at Barnt Green (190-9) in the Birmingham League.

In division One, Shifnal (105-0, Tony Parton 60no) crushed Attock (101), and Wellington (140, Mark Downes 43) beat West Brom (132, Adam Byram 4-34).

In Division Two, Steve Taylor hit 44 for St Georges (164-8), but Ombersley (165-2) swept home by eight wickets.

In Division Three, Bridgnorth were the only Shropshire winners.

Peter Thompson's unbeaten 64 helped Bridgnorth to 234-6.

Opponents Studley were then shot out for 85, largely thanks to Tom Weaver's 6-20.

Newport held on for a draw against Fordhouses, who rattled up 220-8.

Newport responded brightly, Nick Watkins top-scoring with 51, but then faded away to finish on 166-9.

Whitchurch were bowled out for 145 in reply to visitors Lichfield's 188, despite sterling work with ball and bat by Maisam Hasnain, who took figures of 5-53 before scoring 53.

In the Marston's Shropshire Premier League , Quatt and Oswestry are joint leaders.

Quatt won by seven wickets at Newtown. The home side could only muster 111, Quatt's Craig Jones taking 5-29. The village side then crusied to 112-3, Dave Street unbeaten on 38.

Oswestry spread the runs around as they beat Much Wenlock by 66 runs.

Alex Huxley (41), Joe Carrasco (37) and Nick Williams (33) all chipped in for Oswestry's 171-8.

In reply, Wenlock were dismissed for 106 (Chris Lewis 56, Paul Robinson 4-37, Williams 3-28).

Last season's wooden spoonists Broseley scored a rare victory at Albrighton.

The home side made 144 (Gareth Hughes 49no), but Broseley responded with 145-3 (Mohammed Arshad 66no, Mohammed Mehboob 47).

There were surprise defeats for Wem and Ludlow against Madeley and Shelton respectively.

Madeley's Chris Hodson tookj five wickets for just nine runs to restrict Wem to 108 all out. In reply, Steve Jones (60) and Danny Maclean (39) were both undefeated as Madeley galloped to 112-1 for a nine-wicket win.

Shelton's Andy Wigginton did the damage with 5-11 as Ludlow were skittled out for 75. Shelton getting home for the loss of five wickets, Matt Morris remaining unbeaten at the end on 23.

An entertaining match saw Bomere Heath draw with last season's champions Reman Services.

Bomere hit 173-8 (Shivraj Singh 57, Ian Gillespie 54, Gary Williams 4-40, Mal Serplet 4-43), with Reman's replying with 132-9 (Darren Bullock 62no, Singh 4-19, Gillespie 3-53).

League newcomers Allscott fell to their first defeat, losing by seven wickets to Welshpool.

Sam Birch took 7-28 as Allscott were bowled out for 67.

Welshpool then made 69-3, Chris Owen hitting an unbeaten half-century.
